The options for art fans in New York have never been better. The New York Times has a guide, written by five different art critics, of the best galleries in New York (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/04/arts/design/a-gallery-guide-by-the-art-critics-of-the-new-york-times.html). New York, however, remains the centre of the world, both in number and quality of art galleries and art dealers, which operate independently of government institutions, month after month propose new exhibitions to experience. And if we consider that the galleries are among the few places where you do not have to pay to enter, making a trip is a “Must” (maybe after checking out the art galleries official web sites to learn about current exhibitions being shown, but it should be remembered that generally they are open from Tuesday to Saturday).
And if Chelsea until a few years ago seemed like the centre of the center of the world, even the Lower East Side and the Upper East Side offer some intriguing proposals, or you can check out the historic SoHo scene, while if you go hunting for some young artists the area of Bushwick, Brooklyn, and Donut are the places to give priority to.
